Challenge
Inefficiencies and redundancies significantly increase cost in the U.S. health care system. While the problem is well-known, proposals to address it are often values-driven and focus on large, abstract solutions that are difficult to implement. The resulting partisan debate makes it difficult to translate proposals into effective healthcare policy. Economic research identifying inefficiencies and redundancies in healthcare spending already exists in peer-reviewed academic journals. We were asked to help present that research in a more accessible format to inform policy makers, focus the debate and disseminate ideas that could potentially improve efficiency and better people’s lives.
Solution
We created a program brand, website and explainer animation to present the economic policy briefs from leading researchers that identify discrete problems in the US health care system that raise health spending. The brief for each problem is based on rigorous academic scholarship and translates economic data into discrete, tangible, and intelligible solutions that offer legislators a roadmap for implementing change. The resulting policy can reduce healthcare spending and improve people’s lives by making the system more efficient.
